Luxembourg actress Vicky Krieps and German director Florian Gallenberger have become the new presidents of the Deutsche Filmakademie. They were elected at the general assembly in Berlin, where Krieps replaced Alexandra Maria Lara, who declined to run for a second term.

For Crips, the appointment was an important career milestone. "I love cinema and live it. I am honoured to represent German cinema together with Florian," the actress said on the academy's website.

Florian Gallenberger, re-elected for a second term, emphasised that the main objective is to strengthen the position of German cinema and its visibility internationally. He noted that they would represent the Academy's values of openness to the world, artistic excellence, diversity, respect and solidarity. This is particularly important in the current social context.

Gallenberger is best known for the film Colonia (Colonia, 2015), which was produced with Luxembourg-based Iris Productions.
