A landscape photography exhibition opens on the boat where the Schengen Agreement was signed in 1985. INFRAROUT, by Luxembourg-based photographer Pascal Schaeffer, runs from 7 November 2026 to 31 January 2027.

Why the trees look different

Schaeffer photographs in infrared light, outside the range visible to the human eye. Leaves can appear almost white, the sky much darker than usual, and familiar riverbanks take on an unfamiliar look. The exhibition includes colour and black-and-white works.

The effect starts in the camera: Schaeffer uses modified cameras and different filters. He then adjusts white balance, contrast and colour channels. He says his works are based on his own photographs and that he does not use AI-generated images.

See examples of his work and an explanation of the technique on the photographer’s website.

Visiting the exhibition

The Prinzessin Marie-Astrid Europa is now part of the Schengen Museum. Access to the boat is included in the museum ticket, allowing visitors to see a place closely tied to the history of open borders in Europe.

The exhibition is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00; last entry is at 17:30. Address: 1, rue Robert Goebbels, L-5444 Schengen. Admission to the museum and boat is €5, or €3 for ages 7–17; children under seven enter free. Tickets are available online or at the museum desk. Check the exhibition page before travelling.
