Lycée privé Emile Metz (LPEM) was founded in Luxembourg-Dommeldange in 1914 and is known for its focus on technical and engineering education. In September 2023, the Lycée opened a second campus in Differdange, housed in the historic Villa Hadir, a monument to the region's industrial past, as well as in a temporary modular building. The move was made as part of a strategy to expand and modernise educational opportunities to give students access to cutting-edge learning in science, engineering and digital technologies.

LPEM is the only lycée in Luxembourg certified as a "MINT-freundliche Schule" (MINT: Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften und Technik), which emphasises its high standards in teaching mathematics, informatics, science and technology. The Lyceum actively co-operates with industrial companies, offering students internships and practical training, which enables them to apply theoretical knowledge in practice and better prepare for a professional career.

On 26 February 2025, the inauguration of the new LPEM building in Differdange took place. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, the Mayor of the city, Guy Altmeisch, as well as representatives of the administration, teachers and students of the Lycée. The new modular building was built in record time: preparations began in December 2023 and construction started in May 2024. Thanks to efficient organisation, half of the building was already ready to receive students in September 2024.

The building comprises 89 modules and covers an area of 4,600 m² spread over four floors (basement + 3 floors). It can accommodate 250 students and is equipped with everything necessary for comfortable learning: five classrooms, five modern workshops, six laboratories and two project rooms. A separate medical room is provided to ensure the safety and health of students.

The new building also includes innovative spaces such as a MakerSpace for technical creativity, a spacious library, and a fitness room. An important element of the social infrastructure is the school restaurant, which will be operational after Easter 2025 and will be able to accommodate up to 250 people in two streams. Classroom and extracurricular spaces were designed taking into account modern pedagogical methods that promote active interaction and creative development of students.

In the near future, it is planned to develop external areas with recreation zones and a multifunctional sports ground. These spaces will be specially designed for recreation, socialising and active outdoor activities, which will create favourable conditions for the development of physical activity and social integration of students.

Since the Differdange campus opened in September 2023, there are 91 pupils at Differdange and 481 pupils at Dommeldange, making a total of 572 pupils supported by 112 teachers. In September 2025, the Lycée plans to expand its programmes by adding 7e Général (7G) classes taught in German and 7e Général-FR (7G-FR) classes taught in French. Each of the four new classes is expected to have 20 students.

In the long term, plans are underway to build a permanent building in Differdange, which will be able to accommodate up to 1,200 pupils. This demonstrates LPEM's strategic ambition to further develop and strengthen its position in Luxembourg's secondary education system.

A special feature of the LPEM educational model is the close connection with industrial enterprises and the focus on practical application of knowledge. The Lyceum provides students with the opportunity to take part in internships and practical projects, which helps them to acquire real skills and better prepare for their future careers. In addition, LPEM actively cooperates with universities and research centres, broadening the horizons of learning and ensuring high quality education.
