In response to a parliamentary enquiry by MP Fred Keup, Luxembourg's Minister of Education, Children and Youth, Claude Meisch, explained that in Luxembourg's European schools, the subject of "Luxembourgish" is not taken into account in the calculation of the average grade and does not affect pupils' progression to the next grade.

In contrast to national schools, in European schools in grades S1-S3 the average grade in the subjects is not calculated. In addition, Luxembourgish is taught additionally, in accordance with the agreement in force for these schools, and is not included in the main assessment system. This is due to the special status of the subject, which is introduced to support national identity and cultural heritage, but is not used for the academic advancement of pupils.

The approach to teaching Luxembourgish in European schools reflects the desire to integrate foreign students and to maintain multilingualism in the educational system. This helps to adapt to Luxembourg's multilingual environment, but does not create additional barriers for pupils who do not speak Luxembourgish from birth.
