The Luxembourg Ministry of Education has issued updated guidelines to school authorities on ensuring the safety of pupils and staff. As confirmed by ministry representatives, the guiding principle in the current situation remains that lessons should continue as normal. Officials emphasise that educational institutions provide a controlled environment where children are constantly supervised by adults, which makes it possible to deal safely and effectively with the consequences of extreme weather conditions.

At the same time, the format of teaching activities must be flexibly adapted to local temperature conditions and the architectural features of individual school buildings. Headteachers have already been provided with guidelines containing a list of preventative measures and possible adjustments to the daily routine. In addition, school management has received information leaflets from the Ministry of Health setting out best practices for behaviour in high temperatures, which schools can distribute to parents.

Despite the general directive to continue operations, a complete suspension of classes is nevertheless permitted; however, this measure applies only in exceptional circumstances and is decided strictly at local level. In particular, decisions on the temporary closure of primary schools fall within the remit of the local authorities, whilst in secondary schools such powers are delegated directly to the school management.
