Danone recalls baby food

Danone has expanded its recall of Aptamil and Milumil baby food brands, urging parents to immediately check the products they have purchased. The decision was made following new recommendations from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) regarding acceptable levels of cerulide, a toxin produced by bacteria that is potentially dangerous to infants.
Exposure to elevated doses of cerulide can cause severe nausea and intense abdominal pain within 30 minutes to six hours after feeding. Danone emphasises that the affected products must not be used under any circumstances. Parents and guardians are advised to seek immediate medical attention if their child experiences such symptoms after feeding.
You can check whether a specific package is subject to recall on the official websites of the brands — aptaclub.de and milupa.de — by checking the expiry date. The company does not specify the exact number of batches, but indicates that the recall is a preventive measure in response to updated scientific risk assessments.
This move is part of a wider wave of recalls of baby formula and baby food across Europe in recent weeks. Similar measures have already been taken by other manufacturers, including Nestlé, Babybio and Popote. In Luxembourg, the products in question were previously withdrawn from the market by decision of the Veterinary Administration (ALVA), indicating the systemic nature of the problem and increased scrutiny of baby food safety.
