The Luxembourg Health Directorate has published its weekly overview of the main acute respiratory infections: influenza, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The data indicate a continuing decline in influenza and coronavirus, with a moderate increase in RSV.

The incidence of influenza decreased from 555 to 321 confirmed cases, which represents a 42% decrease compared to the previous week. This is the fifth consecutive week of decline, and the circulation of the virus continues to decrease. Almost all typed cases — 98.7% — were influenza A, while influenza B accounted for only 1.3%, confirming the dominance of one strain in the current season.

The situation with RSV is developing differently. The number of cases has increased slightly, from 89 to 92 (+3%). Since October 2025, 55% of all registered infections have been in children under the age of ten, confirming the age structure of the disease that is characteristic of this virus. RSV traditionally poses an increased risk to infants and young children, especially during the winter months.

COVID-19 shows a moderate decline: the number of positive tests decreased from 73 to 66 cases (-10%). The concentration of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater has decreased slightly, which is usually considered a leading indicator of the spread of infection. According to the latest sequencing data, the XFG variants (45.5%), its subvariant XFG.3 (26.7%) and NB.1.8.1 (18.2%) predominate, forming the main structure of the circulating strains.
