The Ministry of Health has published a weekly report on the spread of acute respiratory infections, including influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19. The data for the 5th week of 2025 (27 January - 2 February) show a stabilisation of the epidemiological situation.

The number of laboratory-confirmed flu cases rose by 2 per cent to 2,509 cases, up from 2,448 a week earlier. The virus is particularly prevalent among children and adolescents, but experts believe the epidemic is close to its peak, which will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Among the detected cases, 56% were influenza A and 44% were influenza B. The main virus subtypes are A(H1)pdm9 (48.5%) and A(H3) (51.5%).

Doctors remind about the need for vaccination and compliance with preventive measures: frequent hand washing, ventilation of premises, avoiding mass events and contact with the sick.

The number of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) cases decreased by 3% to 249 cases from 258 a week earlier. The virus continues to be most active in young children and elderly people over 80 years of age.

The number of positive tests for SARS-CoV-2 decreased from 77 to 76 cases per week. The virus concentration in wastewater also decreased, confirming the general trend of decreasing virus activity.

The latest sequencing data revealed the dominance of two coronavirus sub-variants, XEC (46.5%) and KP.3 (40.2%), which have been circulating in the region since as early as November 2024.
