The number of new cases of SARS-CoV-2 infection decreased from 66 to 51 - minus 23% compared to the previous week. This is a continuation of a moderate downward trend, but experts warn that it is too early to relax. Despite fewer positive tests, the viral load in wastewater has increased. And this is one of the most sensitive indicators of epidemiological activity.

In terms of the genetic composition of the virus, Luxembourg is dominated by the XFG variant (54.2%) and its sub-variant XFG.3 (29.1%). These are variants originating from the Omicron family, which have not yet been associated with an increase in severe disease, but require vigilance because of possible variability.

The flu situation looks much more alarming. 173 new cases were registered against 79 a week earlier - a 119% jump. The vast majority (98%) of cases are type A influenza, which is characteristic of more aggressive seasonal waves. The outbreak could put pressure on the medical system, especially with multiple viruses spreading at the same time.

Respiratory syncytial virus is a classic winter companion and the main threat to the youngest children. During the reporting period, 93 cases were registered, which is 4% more than in the previous week. Since October 2025, 75% of those infected have been children under 9 years of age, highlighting the vulnerability of this age group.
