The Luxembourg Ministry of Health has published its weekly epidemiological review, showing a further decline in the incidence of major acute respiratory infections. According to data for the ninth week of the year (23 February to 1 March 2026), there has been a decrease in the number of cases of influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19.
The most noticeable trend continues to be with influenza. Laboratories recorded 145 cases, compared to 183 a week earlier, representing a 21% decrease. This is the seventh consecutive week of declining figures, indicating a gradual end to the seasonal peak. Among the typed samples, 94.3% are influenza A, while influenza B accounts for only 5.7%.
A similar trend is observed for RSV, a virus that is particularly dangerous for infants and young children. During the reporting week, 41 cases of infection were confirmed, compared to 58 cases a week earlier, which corresponds to a 29% decrease.
A significant reduction has also been recorded for COVID-19. The number of confirmed cases has decreased from 56 to 33, i.e. by 41%. At the same time, the concentration of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in wastewater has decreased — one of the indicators of the circulation of the infection among the entire population.
Despite the favourable trend, health authorities remind us of the need to maintain basic preventive measures. It is recommended to wash your hands regularly with soap for at least 30 seconds, cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, use disposable tissues, and avoid close contact with others if you have symptoms of illness. During seasonal epidemics, it is also advisable to ventilate rooms more often, limit participation in mass events, and stay at home if you feel unwell.
