On 1 January 2025, the merger of two key laboratories related to veterinary and food safety will come into force in Luxembourg. The merger of the State Veterinary Laboratory (LMVE) and the food monitoring department of the National Health Laboratory (LNS) will result in the Veterinary and Food Laboratory (LVA).
This is a strategic step in centralising analytical research throughout the country's food chain. The new centre will become part of the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Wine.
The establishment of LVA means a more systematic and transparent control of product quality. In January 2025, a list of standard laboratory analyses performed by the new laboratory will be published on the portal of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Safety website.
The new centre will simplify and speed up food control in Luxembourg. The merger of laboratories should improve the quality of food chain monitoring, making analysis procedures more transparent and accessible to producers, retailers and consumers.
