Where to go for medical help on holidays

In the run-up to the Christmas and New Year holidays, two of Luxembourg's largest medical institutions - Centre hospitalier de Luxembourg and Hôpital Kirchberg (part of Hôpitaux Robert Schuman) - have announced a temporary change in emergency department opening hours. This is to ensure uninterrupted medical care during peak times and periods of minimal staffing.
The Ministry of Health recommends that residents keep a close eye on the duty rota to avoid wasting valuable time travelling between hospitals. The standard rotation between the two facilities is in place at all other times, but on the days between 24 and 28 December, the schedule will be as follows:
Wednesday, 24 December
- CHL is on duty until 15:00.
- From 15:00, the Hôpital Kirchberg takes over.
Thursday, 25 December (Christmas Day)
- All day - CHL
Friday, 26 December
- Until 17:00 - CHL
- After 17:00 - Hôpital Kirchberg
Saturday and Sunday, 27 and 28 December
- Both days in full - Hôpital Kirchberg
Such a clear organisation of duty between the two locations allows to evenly distribute the workload of doctors and ensure the availability of specialised specialists in both institutions. At the same time, residents are reminded that in case of an emergency, they should call 112, and in case of non-life-threatening symptoms, they should find out in advance which facility is open on a particular day.
