Luxembourg police have uncovered a major operation to combat the trade in counterfeit goods. As has only now become known, simultaneous searches were carried out on 25 November at shops in Esch-sur-Alzette and Luxembourg as part of an investigation into the illegal trade in counterfeit luxury brands.

As a result of police action, around 5,000 items of allegedly counterfeit products, ranging from clothing to accessories, bearing the logos of well-known brands were seized. Additionally, operatives confiscated 19,000 euros in cash, which may indicate the scale of the illegal trade. All the seized property was arrested by order of the investigating judge.

The anti-counterfeiting actions were carried out by the criminal division of the judicial police with the support of various law enforcement units, the prosecutor's office, the bureau for combating illicit proceeds, as well as Europol, underlining the international nature and seriousness of the investigation.

At the moment, the exact names of the shops and their owners have not been disclosed, and the investigation is ongoing. However, the scale of the seizures suggests that this is not an isolated trade, but a well-organised counterfeit distribution scheme.
