ATM bombing: suspects on the run

Early on Tuesday morning, unknown individuals blew up a cash machine in the municipality of Vianden. The incident took place at around 04:25 on Rue de la Frontière. By the time the first police units arrived, the perpetrators had managed to flee the scene. A spokesperson for the police confirmed the incident, adding that no one was injured as a result of the explosion.

The area around the incident is currently cordoned off, and the street has been closed to traffic. Investigation teams and forensic experts are working at the scene. Meanwhile, the police have launched a large-scale operation to locate and apprehend the perpetrators. More than an hour after the explosion, at around 05:30, unmarked police vehicles were travelling north at high speed along the A7 motorway. At the same time, several police crews took up strategic positions at various points along the motorway towards Luxembourg. At around 05:50, a police helicopter joined the large-scale search operation, patrolling the airspace above the Kirchberg business district.

Law enforcement agencies are searching for a white Mercedes-Benz convertible with a black soft top, in which the suspects are believed to have fled. The vehicle bears Luxembourg number plates YQ8591, however, according to police reports, these number plates are listed as stolen. The authorities are urging any members of the public with information on the whereabouts of this vehicle to contact the duty office immediately on 113.
