The City of Luxembourg (VdL) has issued an official statement refuting reports of a performance by the American rapper Eminem. A scam that has spread widely on social media is designed to obtain users’ personal and financial details under the pretence of selling tickets to a non-existent show.

According to the authorities, clicking on the promotional link redirects users to a phishing site. However, the scam can be identified by a number of tell-tale signs. The management emphasises that the Stade de Luxembourg is currently used exclusively for sporting events and does not host concerts.

To ensure digital security, experts recommend following these guidelines when encountering suspicious offers:

Source verification

Official announcements of events on this scale are always published on the artists’ websites and in the major media.

URL analysis

Unusual domain names, or typos or misspellings of a brand name, are clear signs of a threat.

Data privacy

It is strongly advised not to enter your bank card details on unfamiliar websites.

Critical thinking

If an offer seems too good to be true or unexpected, it’s worth checking the details on the city’s official websites.

Law enforcement officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and point out that a visit by a global superstar of Eminem’s calibre would have been announced via official media channels, such as RTL, well in advance of ticket sales opening.
