On Friday, a massive piece of cladding collapsed from the facade of a residential building on the rue de l'Alzette in Esch-sur-Alzette. According to RTL, it was a concrete block measuring about 30cm that fell from under a window on the ground floor. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Firefighters, police and representatives of the municipality's building inspectorate immediately arrived at the scene of the incident. The Kiosk shop, located on the ground floor of the building, was immediately closed.

According to Burgomaster Christian Weis, the building's owner hired contractors over the weekend to do the initial work. However, as of Monday, the area around the building was still fenced off: "I'm waiting to hear back from the building police to see when the barriers can be removed and the shop reopened," Weis explained in a comment to L'essentiel.

He added that since taking office at the end of 2023, this is the first incident of this magnitude in his practice. It is not yet known whether the collapse was caused by structural deterioration, weather conditions or other factors.
