Luxair's morning flight LG6992, which left Milan at around 8:40am on Monday, was forced to re-route and land in Geneva. The De Havilland Q-400 aircraft on a flight to Luxembourg was diverted to Switzerland shortly after take-off for "preventive reasons", according to the airline.
Luxair confirmed the incident to RTL on Tuesday, emphasising that the safety of the 69 passengers on board was not threatened at any point. All passengers were treated in Geneva and arrived safely in Luxembourg the same evening.
The reasons for the emergency landing were not specified, but the absence of any injuries or casualties indicated a standard preventive measure that may have been caused by a technical failure or suspected technical failure.
In such cases, the decision to change a route may be taken even if there is a minor deviation from the norm, especially against the backdrop of air carriers' desire to avoid any risks. Luxair, as Luxembourg's national carrier, maintains a strong safety reputation and, judging by its prompt response, is endeavouring to reinforce it.
