Two alleged members of a criminal gang detained last week in France have been handed over to Luxembourg police. The arrests were part of a major ongoing investigation into organised property crime since the beginning of 2023.

Both men, suspected of playing an active role in a cross-border criminal organisation, have been extradited as part of intensive cooperation between Luxembourg and France. According to the Public Prosecutor's Office, this development is linked to an operation announced on 25 June 2025.

The investigation lasted several months and was conducted in co-operation with French and German law enforcement authorities. The case centres on a series of 48 burglaries committed throughout Luxembourg between January 2023 and December 2024. It is believed that the members of the group, who lived mainly in France and Germany, caused €700,000 worth of damage by targeting valuables in private homes.

On 24 June 2025, four people were detained in north-eastern France on European arrest warrants issued by Luxembourg. Another suspect was arrested the following day in the territory of the Grand Duchy.

According to the police, the current extradition demonstrates that borders are not an obstacle to justice. This is particularly important against the backdrop of growing international crime, where close co-operation between countries is becoming a key tool in the fight against criminal networks.
