Following the recent recall of Morbier cheeses under the Nos Régions ont du Talent and Auchan Terroir brands, the Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) has announced new cases of Escherichia coli (STEC) bacteria contamination. This time dangerous bacteria were found in several types of Jean Perrin cheese, which led to the extension of the recall list.
The following Jean Perrin cheeses have come under recall:
- Morbier AOP MINI 75 Jours (barcode: 3324440317755) - all expiry dates and all lots.
- Plat Raclette au Lait Cru (360 g) (barcode: 3324440440361) - all expiry dates and all batches.
- Plat Raclette Lait Cru Nature (630 g) (barcode: 3324440440996) - all expiry dates and all batches.
- Raclette au Lait Cru (barcode: 3324440416762) - all expiry dates and all lots.
- Raclette Lait Cru (200 g) (barcode: 3324440470726) - all expiry dates and all batches.
Escherichia coli (STEC) bacteria can cause serious intestinal infections, with symptoms including diarrhoea (sometimes with blood), vomiting, severe abdominal pain and fever. In 5-8% of cases, serious complications including acute kidney failure can occur, especially in children and the elderly.
ALVA strongly recommends not to consume these cheeses and to return them immediately to the shops for a refund. In case of symptoms of poisoning after consumption of these products, seek medical advice immediately, indicating the date and place of purchase.
