Nestlé recalls baby food worldwide

The largest food manufacturer Nestlé has announced a global recall of infant formula due to possible bacterial contamination. The reason was the suspected contamination of one of the ingredients with the bacterium Bacillus cereus, a microorganism that can produce the dangerous toxin cereulide. This toxin rarely causes serious food poisoning, especially in infants with immune systems that have not yet developed.
The following brands of products have been recalled:
- Beba
- Beba expert HA
- Beba expert Comfort+
- Beba supreme
- Beba AR
- Alfamino
In Luxembourg, according to the Veterinary and Food Supervision Administration (Alva), NAN and Alfamino branded products, totalling 11 products, are also under recall, a list of which is available on the authority's official website.
Nestlé states that no cases of illness or symptoms have been reported in infants and emphasises that the recall is preventative, in line with strict internal safety standards.
Parents are strongly advised not to use the affected products. The formulae can be returned to the place of purchase, even without a receipt, and a full refund can be obtained. In case of symptoms (diarrhoea, vomiting, lethargy), the paediatrician should be consulted immediately.
The company has also set up a dedicated consumer support line and the Grand Duchy authorities have issued an official warning.
