The Luxembourg Public Prosecutor's Office has announced that the only suspect in the case of the attack in the capital's Limpertsberg district is a 27-year-old man who does not reside in the country.

According to police, the attacker stabbed two women in a residential building on Avenue de la Faïencerie. One of them, aged 35, died from her injuries. The French newspaper Républicain Lorrain reported that the victim was originally from the northern French department of Moselle. The second victim, a 36-year-old Luxembourg citizen, was taken to hospital in serious condition.

The public prosecutor's office emphasised that there were no family ties between the suspect and the two women. According to information from Luxemburger Wort, the crime took place in a residential building, and RTL specifies that the victim worked for a real estate agency and was in the building to show an apartment that was up for rent. The seriously injured woman is believed to be a neighbour in the same building.

After the attack, the suspect attempted to flee. His car collided with a black BMW, which was not involved in the incident, on a nearby street. Forensic experts took samples from the damaged car. Later, the police evacuated a dark Renault Clio with French number plates from the crime scene, which was believed to have been used by the attacker.

The man was detained in the area between Bridel and Strassen after attempting to flee. Earlier, the police conducted a large-scale operation in the areas of Biergerkräiz and Bridel, approximately six kilometres from the centre of the capital, urging citizens not to pick up hitchhikers and to immediately report any suspicious persons.
