Three fires were put out on Sunday

On Sunday afternoon, Luxembourg’s emergency services responded swiftly to three separate fires in the southern part of the country. The largest incident occurred in the town of Esch-sur-Alzette, where dry grass caught fire behind the municipal workshops on Rue Barbourg. According to forest ranger Paul Zimmermann, the fire covered an area of around one hectare, but it was quickly contained and extinguished.

The CGDIS fire and rescue service confirmed that the alarm was raised at 13:31. The scale of the potential threat required the deployment of significant resources: fire crews from Esch-sur-Alzette, Bascharage, Mondercange, Schifflange and Dudelange. In addition, specialists from the Sadiff Centre, the Operational Technical Support Group (GATO) and ambulance crews from Esch-sur-Alzette took part in the operation.

Shortly afterwards, emergency services were dispatched to deal with two further local incidents. Shortly before 2.00 pm, a gas barbecue caught fire on Rue de Bettembourg in Fentange. Firefighters from Hesperange and the capital’s ambulance service were called in to deal with the incident. Less than an hour later, at 14:51, a report was received of vegetation on fire on the CR356 road between the villages of Broderbour and Folkendange. Fire crews from the municipalities of Vallée de l’Ernz, Bettendorf and Reisdorf fought the fire in this area.

According to official figures from the authorities, in all three cases the emergency services managed to prevent any casualties.
