28% of the unemployed in Luxembourg have a university degree
When looking at these statistics, it is important to keep in mind that we are only talking about official unemployment among residents. In other words, people who have been in the country for a long time and have registered with an employment agency.
As of March 31, 2024, the number of unemployed people increased by 15.1% compared to the same period last year. Their total number is 17,654 or 5.6% of the working population. The biggest increase is among job seekers aged 45 and over.
The statistics are no less alarming for jobs for professionals. From November 2023 to February 2024, the number of job seekers with a university degree has been growing steadily. Already at the beginning of this year, the number of job seekers with a university degree exceeded 5,000. This corresponds to 28.4% of all unemployed. For comparison: in 2023 this parameter was equal to 27%, in 2022 - 23.4%.
