After nearly nine years of uncertainty, Google's data centre construction project in Bissen is showing signs of revival. The American corporation has launched a recruitment process: a vacancy for a technical manager for data centre construction projects has been published on the Google website. The position requires a specialist with a higher education and preferably at least five years of experience, capable of leading complex interdisciplinary projects from start to finish. The job description itself clearly indicates the preparation of a large infrastructure.

However, the project has not yet been formally approved. Burgomaster David Viaggi stated that the municipality had not been informed of Google's staffing decisions and that there had been no direct contact with the company recently. According to him, the approval process is still ongoing. He emphasises that he is positive about the project, but only on condition that all established rules and procedures are followed. If the necessary documents are gathered, the situation may become clearer in the coming weeks.

The context makes what is happening particularly noteworthy. In recent years, the project has repeatedly been considered effectively frozen. In 2023, then Prime Minister Xavier Bettel publicly stated that the data centre "is not a priority for Google". Even under the current head of government, Luc Frieden, cautious statements were made about not wanting to "raise false hopes" regarding an initiative that had long failed to show any real progress.

Nevertheless, Google has never completely abandoned the idea. The company has already invested €13.5 million in related infrastructure, which the authorities see as a sign of long-term interest. However, Google's official position remains cautious: in response to a media enquiry, the company said that it currently has "nothing to add" about the project in Bissen.
