A major job fair organised by Moovijob, specifically targeting vacancies in Luxembourg, was held last Friday in Metz, France. The event attracted many French job seekers eager to find employment in the Grand Duchy - despite traffic jams, construction sites, taxation and the increasingly high demands of employers.
According to the latest figures, Luxembourg employs around 489,000 people, of which almost half are cross-border workers. From France alone, more than 125,000 people travel to work in the country every day, and the number continues to grow. In contrast, the number of Belgian workers has stabilised and the number of German workers has even decreased.
At the fair in Metz, more than 40 employers offered over 4,500 vacancies, most of them in Luxembourg. The event demonstrated that the Grand Duchy remains highly attractive to applicants from the Grand Est region (Eastern France).
The main reasons for the attraction are high salaries and the quality of the working environment, which is especially important against the background of French inflation and stagnation of the labour market. However, the demands from Luxembourg companies are becoming more and more stringent.
As Julien Dauer, director of Frontaliers GrandEst, points out, employers have strengthened language requirements: "Whereas basic English used to be sufficient, today you need a confident level, and knowledge of French, German and even Luxembourgish can be an advantage".
