Recently, the European Commission published a large-scale study on European cities in terms of work, life and environment for foreign professionals. But one of the most interesting indicators is the rating of residents' satisfaction with their work.

As expected, the top ten cities included German settlements, as well as the capital of the Grand Duchy, Reykjavik, cities in Switzerland and Northern Europe. It should also be noted that the differences are often so minimal that the distribution of the top 10 is rather conditional:

  • Rostock, Germany — 85% satisfied residents.
  • Luxembourg — 84% satisfied residents.
  • Reykjavik, Iceland — 84% satisfied residents.
  • Geneva, Switzerland — 83% satisfied residents.
  • Dortmund, Germany — 83% satisfied residents.
  • Berlin, Germany — 83% satisfied residents.
  • Zurich, Switzerland — 82% satisfied residents.
  • Aalborg, Denmark — 82% satisfied residents.
  • Malmö, Sweden— 82% satisfied residents.
  • Hamburg, Germany — 81% satisfied residents.

Many cities have improved in the 5 years since the last similar study. This is particularly evident in Bologna (Italy) and Nicosia (Cyprus). But there are also places where job satisfaction is still low.

The most modest indicators are in Greece: in Heraklion only 54% of people are satisfied with their job, and in Athens — 56%. It is noteworthy that in other Balkan countries this indicator is higher. In Skopje and Belgrade, for example, the level of satisfaction was 60%.
