Against a background of stable economic activity, the national statistics institute STATEC has presented a fresh list of Luxembourg's largest employers. The data covers 387 companies, each with at least 90 employees, and provides an overview of the employment structure by sector.

The absolute leader in terms of the number of employees was the railway operator CFL with 5,110 employees. This reflects the importance of the state transport infrastructure as a stable source of employment.

In second place is the Dussmann Luxembourg group specialising in cleaning and maintenance services (4,880 employees). Its high performance emphasises the role of outsourcing in today's economy.

The third position is occupied by Post Luxembourg, a national communications and logistics operator with 4,450 employees. It is followed by Amazon.com (4,370), with a strong position in the country as a European headquarters and logistics hub.

Rounding out the top five is supermarket chain Cactus (4,310 employees), the only retailer in the top 5.

The other places in the top ten were distributed as follows:

  • BNP Paribas in Luxembourg (banking sector) - 3,890 employees,
  • PricewaterhouseCoopers (audit and consulting) - 3,610,
  • ArcelorMittal (metallurgy) - 3,520,
  • Goodyear Dunlop Tires Operations SA (rubber products manufacturing) - 3,390,
  • Cargolux Airlines International (air cargo) - 3,200.

STATEC statistics are based on a voluntary survey but cover almost all key sectors, from industry to finance. These data not only illustrate the balance between the public and private sectors, but also show how international companies are integrated into Luxembourg's labour market.
