Books are a popular Christmas gift in Luxembourg
Books are once again a popular Christmas and New Year's gift this year. This is reported by Ernster, a network of Luxembourg bookstores. Many books sold better during the Christmas season, and three became outright bestsellers.
Of the books in French, Brigitte Giraud's novel Vivre Vite is especially popular. This one won the Prix Goncourt in 2022. The dramatic autofiction is dedicated to Giraud's attempts to understand what led to the death of her husband in a road accident: an accident, fate, or was it something else?
The most popular book in English right now is Colleen Hoover's romantic novel It Starts With Us. A sequel to her novel It Ends With Us, the book focuses on the relationship of a couple that Hoover partially based on her parents.
Finally, the biography of Alina Mayrish, a well-known Grand Duchy activist, feminist, and philanthropist, gained popularity among books in Luxembourgish.
Also popular is a collection of panoramic engravings depicting Luxembourg authored by Wenzel Callot.
The popularity of books as a gift is growing. And, interestingly, Luxembourgers are increasingly fond of simply gifting books. On the contrary, pre-packaged combo gifts that include a gift item and a book are losing popularity.
