Car crashes into tunnel wall, catches fire at the Escher Raemmerich roundabout

Today, July 31, at around 6:45 am, a car drove off the A4 motorway through the green zone of a nearby roundabout, then crashed into a tunnel wall and caught fire. As a result, the car burned down completely.

Two of the five passengers were ejected from the car before the collision because of the extremely fast driving. The rest of the passengers managed to get out of the car before the fire really started. The paramedics who arrived at the scene immediately took them to the hospital. Emergency personnel from Esch-sur-Alzette, Schifflange and Mondercange worked at the scene.

However, the driver was taken not by the medics, but by the police. As it turned out, the woman was not just speeding past the limit. She was driving under the influence of large amounts of alcohol and drugs. Now she is arrested at the request of the prosecutor’s office. Later today the woman will stand before the examining magistrate.

Earlier today we’ve published a summary of Saturday’s emergencies in the Grand Duchy.
