Drama classes and courses in Luxembourg in English — for children and adults
There are more and more theater lovers in Luxembourg. If you’re one of them here are some drama classes and courses held primarily in English for you. This compilation is a great opportunity to pump up drama skills and speech mastery for all lovers of performing arts from six to sixty (and older) years old.
New World Theater Club
The oldest Luxembourg amateur theater circle. Over 50 years, the NWTC Company has produced over 150 plays. From Shakespeare to Mamet, from Treasure Island to Seagull.
The circle is inclusive, everyone who wants to try themselves in theater arts is welcome here. From stagehands to directors. Regardless of nationality. On the weekends, workshops are held with invited professional lecturers. And from October to April, every Saturday there is a youth group for children and adolescents aged 10-18.
Pirate Productions asbl
Amateur musical theater with a thirty-year history. Specializes in comic performances such as the satirical «Young Frankenstein» and the modern musical interpretation of Shakespeare’s «The Taming of the Shrew».
The organizers are convinced that you do not need to be a native speaker of English to sing well in it. People of all ages and nationalities are also welcome here. Experience is not important, the theater is open to beginners. Pirate Productions asbl often hosts workshops and various events. You can view the schedule online.
You can become part of a theater troupe for a year for 40 euros (family pass). The cost for students and schoolchildren is 10 euros.
LEATSS
Luxembourg European Annual Theater Summer School. It takes place every year in July. On the territory of Belgium in the border town Clairefontaine. Courses and workshops are conducted here by professionals of the theatrical world: experienced actors, directors, playwrights.
This option is great for all amateurs who want to upgrade their skills to a more professional level. You don’t have to wait until next summer. The school holds online workshops according to a schedule, the next one is due in November.
The BGT
Berliner Grund Theater was founded in 1991. Now its permanent stage is in Luxembourg. Large-scale and complex shows are staged here. New productions are held once a year, and sometimes once every few years. The repertoire includes classics, modern performances and even original plays written specifically for the theatre.
BGT supports many drama courses in the Grand Duchy and recruits new members of the troupe through open casting. You can read more about the theater here.
School drama classes
Many schools, including the European schools in Kirchberg and Mamer and the international school in Luxembourg, have their own theater clubs and courses in English. Among them:
- LAMDA Dramaworks at St. George’s school on Saturdays during class. Children from other schools can also register with the troupe.
- Altimentri center in the capital opens musical theater courses for children.
- Artemysia Theater in the capital teaches drama to teenagers on Tuesdays, and to younger children on Wednesdays.
- Ecole de Theater opened acting classes for children aged 8-11.
- Atelier des Arts teaches music and acting to teenagers.
