Lui Veton: who sold counterfeit goods in Luxembourg and how

For more than two years, а Luxembourger bought counterfeit branded items at flea markets and in Turkish stores and resold them in the Grand Duchy. The police drew attention to this back in December 2018 and six months later detained the suspect. More than 400 names of famous brands were found in his house. Among the items there were Hermès, Louboutin, Givenchy or Kenzo labels.

A preliminary investigation found that the suspect had made almost 3000 transactions on the Internet. So now the Luxembourgers should check the country of manufacture of their expensive branded items. The court sentenced the French-speaking Ostap Bender to 16 months in prison on probation and a ban on doing business for 5 years.

In 2023, a second hearing will be held, which will determine the amount of compensation to the brands affected by the losses. The lawyer, however, is determined and considers the preliminary check of more than 200 000 euros exaggerated.
