Luxembourg bus company donates buses to Ukraine
Voyages Emile Weber has donated 8 buses to Ukrainians. Elena Zelenskaya, the wife of the Ukrainian president, has previously asked for this.
In September, Elena came to the European Parliament to speak on what Ukrainians needed. Among other things, she named 3,000 buses to help children get to schools. This is a serious problem: the European Commission claims that right now 5.7 million Ukrainian schoolchildren can't visit school. One bus fits 50-70 students.
Luxembourg is not the only country that has responded to Zelenskaya's call. Spain donated 36 buses, Germany 22 buses, Finland 20, Estonia 9, Austria and Italy 3 each. Although Luxembourg does not lead in terms of the absolute number of buses donated, in terms relative to the population, its assistance is the largest.
Buses are used, their age is from 9 to 13 years. However, Voyages Emile Weber had them repaired before they were sent. The approximate cost of the entire batch of buses is 130 000 euros.
First, the buses will go to the State Agency for Strategic Reserves of Poland. This is the hub through which European humanitarian aid for Ukraine passes. And then the cars will go to the Dnieper, Kherson and Zaporozhye. Presumably, the first Ukrainian children will ride a Luxembourg bus to school even before Christmas arrives.
