Luxembourg»s two main squares getting closer to reconstruction — but not everything’s going smoothly
Constitution Square and Station Square are back in the spotlight. The reconstruction plans are still in the preparatory stage, but it is already known that they will be adapted.
Lydie Polfer, mayor of Luxembourg, announced on Wednesday morning that the project to convert Constitution Square into a public space should be reworked from the ground up.
The Latz + Partner plan chosen for the reconstruction involves cutting down trees. However, the city authorities oppose this and emphasize that Latz + Partner is open to reworking the plan to prevent any damage to nature.
But everything’s relatively clear for the Constitution Square when you compare it to the situation with the Station Square. The Vice Prime Minister of Luxembourg, François Bausch, has indicated that the overall concept for the reconstruction will be presented before the spring of 2023. He also stressed that this will be done during a public meeting. The goal is to collect the opinion of citizens and take those into account during the final planning stage.
From what we know for sure, a major renovation of the CFL headquarters will begin next year, and will be completed in 2026. It is also assumed that a part of the square’s open space will eventually be used as a large bicycle parking lot.
