On 6 November 2024, a quadripartite committee chaired by the Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Martine Deprez, met at the Cultural Centre in Dudelange. The committee, which includes representatives of the government, trade unions, employers and health care providers, annually analyses the costs and revenues of the health insurance system and develops recommendations to improve its performance.

According to the latest estimates, the sickness and maternity insurance system will end 2024 with an operating deficit of €37.9m, contrasting with a surplus of €100.1m for 2023. Health spending rose by 9.1% to €4.58bn, while revenues increased by only 5.1% to €4.54bn. The deficit in 2025 is projected to be around €160.7m, with the total accumulated reserve falling to €763.1m.

Martine Deprez expressed her willingness to negotiate to find solutions to help stabilise the financial situation of the health insurance system and avoid future deficits.
