The maternity allowance in Luxembourg is 1740.09 euros and is paid in three equal installments of 580.03 euros.

Prenatal allowance

The first third of the benefit is paid either prior to giving birth or immediately after, along with the second part.

In order to receive the benefit, you must meet the mandatory criteria, which are different for residents and non-residents.

Residents
Non-residents

When visiting the doctor, the mother-to-be will receive a form for allowance and a maternity booklet. In addition, women who are working or studying are entitled to a paid day off if the checkup takes place during working hours.

Documents

Besides an application for financial support, you will need:

  • bank identification card (BIS) showing the account holder, IBAN account number, and BIC code;
  • the birth certificate, if the child has already been born.

In the case of the child's death:

  • death certificate or certificate of a stillborn child;
  • a medical certificate confirming that the child was viable;
  • for non-residents: a certificate of household membership or a certificate of residence issued by the civil registry office;
  • for women residing in a country outside the EU, European Economic Area, or Switzerland: copy of the residence permit.

The completed form and documents must be submitted to the Children's Future Fund (CAF). If necessary, the CAE may request additional documents.

Also, in addition to the application form, the doctors who examine the pregnant woman fill out a form that must contain:

  • the seal of the institution and details;
  • address;
  • date of examination;
  • doctor's signature.

All the forms are sent to the SAE.

Birth allowance

The birth allowance (second installment) is paid after the birth of the child. The conditions for receiving it and the formal procedures remain the same as the previous step.

Residents

Non-residents

Are required: • Undergo similar medical examinations. • One of the parents must have a job at the time of the last medical exam.

Documents

The same as the prenatal allowance package. These are applications for financial support, a bank identification card (BIS) with the account holder, an IBAN account number and BIC code, etc.

The payment can be received after the first postpartum checkup.

After giving birth, a woman is granted mandatory maternity leave for 8 weeks.

Postpartum allowance

The postpartum allowance is paid when the child reaches a certain age. In order to receive it, several criteria must be met.

For the residents the child is required to:

  • be brought up permanently in Luxembourg from birth to 2 years of age;
  • undergo 6 medical examinations by a pediatrician, general practitioner, or general practitioner before the age of 2 years.

For non-residents the child is required to:

  • undergo 6 medical examinations by a pediatrician, general practitioner, or general practitioner before the age of 2 years;
  • at least one of the parents must work in Luxembourg from the birth of the child until the child is 2 years old.

An application form for the allowance is issued either by the hospital or the registry office at the time of birth registration.

The same documents as for the first two stages are required to receive the allowance. The allowance will be paid when the child will be 2 years old. If the kid dies, the allowance will still be paid in full if the conditions for receiving it have been met.
