Milk in Luxembourg will be produced without CO2 emissions by 2050

176 farmers and farms are members of the European Dairy Association ARLA. They produce about 45% of the milk in the country. Dairy production also produces CO2 emissions that ARLA aims to completely eliminate within 28 years. The so-called “climate check system” will help with this.

The system evaluates milk in 6 categories. The maximum score is 80 points. The price at which ARLA will buy milk from each individual farm from July 1, 2023 will depend on the assessment that the farm receives from this system.

Each point is «worth» 0.03 of a eurocent. The difference in price between environmentally-friendly and non-environmentally-friendly milk is likely to be as high as one cent.

The farmers of Luxembourg are in favor of this initiative. For them, it is important not only as financial encouragement. Following the principles of the system will help make the business more efficient and sustainable in today’s environment.
