Ophthalmologist in Luxembourg now available 24/7

Over the past few years, the Luxembourg’s population has increased. However, an ophthalmologist and professional treatment of eye diseases have become much less accessible to the people. The number of practicing ophthalmologists in the country has decreased. Many specialists have simply retired.

In this regard, the very structure of this line of work in the country had to seriously change. Therefore, since 2019, the National Service for Specialized Ophthalmology has been creating a system in which ophthalmologists can answer calls 24/7. Now such a system has finally been put into practice in the Kirchberg hospital.

Visitors to the hospital can come to see an ophthalmologist at any time. You do not need to make an appointment or call the reception. Simply arrive at the hospital and report that you urgently need a doctor.

However, the schedule is updated daily. It is worth following if you want to visit a particular specialist. It is available for visitors online.

This new system will help to quickly respond to emergencies. On average, 150-200 Luxembourgers a year visit an ophthalmologist for minor eye injuries and traumas. Of course, these people may need professional assistance at any time of the day.

The system created in Kirchberg is not the only recent achievement of Luxembourgian ophthalmology. Now the country has the specialists and equipment necessary for the treatment of retinal detachment. Previously, such operations were only carried out abroad. However, now Luxembourg ophthalmologists help about 120 people with this diagnosis every year. And in general, medicine in the Grand Duchy is becoming more and more modern. For example, recently a digital recipe service was developed in the country.
