"We are very pleased with the results of the first action," said Barbara Fangille, head of communications at Orange Luxembourg. From 10 to 15 March, the company held its first environmental initiative to collect old mobile phones among its corporate customers.

It was simple: large boxes were installed in the offices of eight companies where employees could discreetly "let their old phones go back in time". In just a few days, 363 devices were collected. Participants included Baloise, Accelerating Impact and one of the major consulting offices in the financial sector.

The aim is not just to empty the drawers of technology, but to remind people of the importance of responsible handling of electronics. "It is important that every user is aware of the environmental impact of technology. Responsibility means both deleting data and recycling equipment," emphasises Fanjil.

According to a study by ILRES, 70% of Luxembourg residents keep at least one unwanted phone at home. Moreover, 36% keep more than ten! These devices gather dust without use, even though they could be a source of valuable parts for recycling.

The collected units will be handed over to Orange's partners for sorting and environmental recycling.
