Preparing for the Schueberfouer is well underway
With just two weeks to go, the Glacis is being transformed to welcome the two million visitors who come to the Schueberfouer every year. The stallholders are rushing to get ready, setting up equipment, cleaning up and building rides.
Wiebke is the daughter of the owner of the Bellevue Giant Wheel. They have been regular participants in the Schueberfouer since 1995. They both know the assembly process of their ride by heart, but the tension is still palpable. Wearing hard hats, the workers never stop working under the strict supervision of the owner. "It is hard work and quite unusual. The hours are long, you have to be flexible and always on call," explains Wiebke.
The largest parts arrive on site piece by piece. The transport takes place in stages because the Giant Wheel site at Glacis, despite its size, cannot accommodate all the equipment at once.
For his part, Mathieu is in charge of the toy stand. For him, the preparations are a little different. Like all the other exhibitors, he had to go to the relevant office to obtain the necessary permits to set up his stand at the fair. But his preparations are less complicated. "We bring the trailer, set it up, clean it and we're ready to go," says Mathieu.
In any case, all the vendors are looking forward to the start of the festival on 23 August. "It's a great atmosphere and it's only here that we meet colleagues from different countries. Belgians, French, Dutch, Germans - we talk about everything in the world. It's always a pleasure to meet colleagues we haven't seen during the year. It's always a special experience to come to the Schueberfouer.
The fair runs from 23 August to 11 September 2024.
