The new passports are ready for collection

Luxembourg’s Ministries of Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, and Cooperation and Foreign Trade have officially announced the launch of a new generation of biometric passports, which will be issued from 11 May 2026. A key innovation of the reform is the doubling of the document’s validity period for adult citizens — passports will now be valid for ten years instead of the previous five.
In parallel with the change to the validity period, the agency has carried out a complete overhaul of the passport’s visual design and technical specifications. The new design incorporates modern security features, ensuring that the passport fully complies with the latest international standards for travel documents. Despite the increased technical complexity of production, the government has decided to maintain the current fees: the standard processing fee will be €50, whilst the express service will cost €150.
The standard processing time will be seven working days from the date of application, whilst the fast-track procedure will allow you to receive your passport within three working days. Applications for the new-style documents will be accepted simultaneously at all relevant offices: the Directorate of Consular Affairs and International Cultural Relations (Direction des affaires consulaires et des relations culturelles internationales), local authorities, and the Grand Duchy’s diplomatic and consular missions abroad.
