The municipality of Differdange has announced its decision to completely demolish the city administration building after serious construction errors and structural problems were discovered. The violations were found during preparatory work for the planned renovation.
According to the municipality, inspections have shown that the thickness of the load-bearing foundation does not meet requirements, the quality of the concrete used has been deemed unsatisfactory, and corrosion of the reinforcement has been detected in several areas. In addition, the building does not comply with current fire safety standards, which makes its continued use problematic.
The authorities concluded that a complete rebuild would be a more rational solution than a major renovation. The new project will create a more spacious and modern town hall that meets current technical and functional standards. According to municipal estimates, the additional costs compared to the originally planned renovation will amount to approximately €1 million.
