The winter of 2022-2023 was much warmer and drier than before

Climate change was already evident in the summer, but the winter has once again proved this assumption. The average temperature was 1.4 degrees higher than in the recorded history of observations since 1991.

The end of December was the warmest since 1947. Daytime temperatures reached 15.7 degrees Celsius. The previous record was recollected on December 17, 2019: then the air warmed to 14.7°C. The average temperature from December 1 to February 28 was 3.3°C.

There was also less precipitation. Last February was one of the driest months on record in many European countries. This was noted too by Italy and France. Luxembourg was no exception, unfortunately.

A total of about 171.4 l/m2 of rain fell during the winter, which is 22% less than the average in previous years. February was the second driest month in the history of meteorology in Luxembourg since 1959.
