Traffic control cameras in Hollerich will start working on December 1

Traffic cameras are installed in the most dangerous areas: at the intersection of the route d’Esch and Dr Charles Marx boulevard; on the boulevard itself and at the intersection of the road towards the A4 with the boulevard Pierre Dupong. The cameras are aimed at the cars’ back and record drivers speeding and ignoring red lights.

During test runs since June of this year, 316 red light violations and 28 900 speed limit violations have been recorded. This is more than 800 violations per day.

After the launch of the cameras, they will take pictures of the law-violating cars and send these pictures to an online database. It will be kept there until a fine is paid. In the event that criminal proceedings begin because of the violation, the picture will remain in memory until the court case is closed.

There are exceptions: if a car violates the rules to let an ambulance, police or other emergency services car pass, there will be no fine.
