Luxembourg's Minister for the Environment, Serge Wilmes, has officially confirmed that the change in the status of wolf protection at European Union level will not affect the country's national legislation. The answer was given on 29 April 2025 to a parliamentary request by MPs Mars Di Bartolomeo and Claire Delcourt.

Earlier, the European Commission proposed to weaken wolf protection measures as part of the amendments to the Habitats Directive. Luxembourg did not object to this initiative, explaining its position by the fact that it supports EU Member States where the presence of wolves causes serious conflicts with agriculture. In these countries, unlike Luxembourg, wolf populations create real economic and social problems.

Nevertheless, Minister Wilmes emphasised that in Luxembourg itself, national legislation will remain unchanged. Wolves will continue to enjoy strict protection and their hunting or other impact will remain strictly prohibited.
