Luxembourg no longer accepts Syrian refugees
Due to the latest developments in Syria and the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, the Luxembourg Ministry of the Interior has decided to temporarily suspend the processing of international protection requests for Syrian nationals.
This decision is temporary and aims to conduct a detailed analysis of the geopolitical situation in Syria in co-operation with other EU Member States. The main objectives are to assess the level of respect for human rights in Syria and to ensure a harmonised approach among EU countries.
Despite the suspension of requests:
- Applicants retain the right to submit new applications.
- The procedure of the Dublin system remains unchanged.
- Living conditions and material support in accommodation centres will not deteriorate.
The Ministry assured that the priority remains humanitarian support for the applicants and their rights. Consultations with EU partners will make it possible to develop common solutions in line with the new realities in Syria.
The decision is temporary and the situation will be reviewed as new data becomes available.
