Nancy Pelosi underwent surgery after being injured in Luxembourg
Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, has undergone hip replacement surgery at a US military hospital in Germany. The injury was the result of a fall at an official event in Luxembourg, where she was with a congressional delegation as part of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Ardennes.
Condition and treatment
- After the fall, Pelosi was taken to a hospital in Luxembourg and then transferred to Landstuhl Regional Medical Centre in Germany.
- According to Pelosi spokesman Ian Kreger, the surgery was successful and the politician is "recovering well."
Despite her age, Pelosi continues to be an influential figure in American politics. Since she was first elected to Congress in 1987, she has twice served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, and in 2022 she gave up leadership positions but retained her seat in Congress.
Pelosi's colleagues, including Republican Michael McCaul, expressed support and wishes for a speedy recovery.
