A bypass around Hosingen to be
Hosingen, through which some 17,000 vehicles pass every day, will soon be free of congestion thanks to the construction of a bypass road. This project, proposed more than half a century ago, is finally close to being realised.
Construction began in June 2023 and significant work has already taken place:
- 450,000 cubic metres of land has been removed.
- The tunnel is 325 metres long and includes two tubes with two lanes each. To reinforce the structure, engineers installed about 4,000 spikes into the rock.
- Casting of the concrete tunnel vaults will begin in January 2025, scheduled for completion in the summer of the same year.
Also in 2025, construction of a new bridge on the Route de Bockholtz will start, and in 2026 construction of a 100-metre viaduct will begin.
The project will be implemented in two phases:
- The first part of the road connecting the southern roundabout of Hosingen with Roderschhausen will open in 2028.
- The road will be fully completed in 2030, slightly behind the original schedule.
Once the bypass road is in place, a major reconstruction of the village centre is planned. A nationally significant cycleway is planned and all green and pedestrian areas, which are now severely restricted by traffic, will be expanded.
The bypass will not only optimise traffic flow, but will also be part of efforts to improve safety and accessibility on the N7 motorway. This project will be an example of how infrastructure can transform the urban landscape and improve the quality of life.
