The American Women’s Club of Luxembourg (AWCL) has launched this year’s Gifts for Kids campaign. Its participants help prepare presents ahead of St Nicholas Day for children living in group homes in Luxembourg.
Each child chooses a present with a support worker. The wish is placed on a tag on a giving tree, while donations help organisers buy and deliver the chosen items. Companies and schools can host a tree. Wishes are already available on the campaign’s digital tree, and supporters can also donate through the AWCL website. According to the organisers, a contribution of about €25 covers one gift.
AWCL plans to hand over the gifts to representatives of the group homes at its clubhouse in Luxembourg-Beggen on 20 and 21 November. The homes will collect them for distribution to the children before St Nicholas Day. In the previous campaign, the organisers fulfilled 1,725 wishes from children in more than 130 group homes.
The project has run since 1996. The idea remains simple: a child receives a present they chose themselves and can take part in the celebration alongside others.
