Luxembourg civil servants need psychological help
The number of requests to the psychosocial service of the Luxembourg Ministry of Public Service (SPS) has increased significantly in recent years. In 2023, 660 employees requested assistance, which shows a steady increase compared to 15 referrals in 2015.
SPS helps civil servants to cope with personal and professional difficulties. The service organises individual counselling, workplace risk analyses, as well as surveys and training sessions. Among the training topics:
- Psychological de-escalation.
- Mental health first aid.
- Stress management and life hygiene.
- Leadership with psychological safety in mind.
Coaching, supervision and return to work programmes after long term illnesses are also provided.
The Ministry of Public Service intends to further develop the psychosocial support programme. The focus is on the professionalisation of human resource management and leadership, which is seen as a key element in the prevention of psychosocial risks.
The increase in referrals emphasises the importance of accessible and quality mental health support in the public service. These measures not only help to improve employee wellbeing, but also contribute to a more productive and sustainable working environment.
