On 10 December 2024, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) published the gender equality index data for 2024. Luxembourg ranked 7th among EU countries with a score of 75.4 out of 100 possible points, 4.4 points above the EU average.

Luxembourg retains the top spot in the EU in the "Money" category with a score of 94.1 points. The "Financial Resources" subcategory also maintains its leading position with 97.9 points - the best score in the EU since 2010.

The most significant progress was made in the category "Power", where the index increased by 3.6 points over the year and reached 68 points. The subcategories of political and economic power showed growth (+4.1 and +10 points, respectively).

Since 2010, Luxembourg has improved its overall index by 14.2 points, mainly due to the increased influence of women in power (+42.4 points).

Alongside the successes, there are also obvious drawbacks. Despite the narrowing of the gap, women continue to take on more domestic and cookery responsibilities. While women's participation in politics has increased at the local level, there has been a decline at the national level. Also, the gap between men and women in higher education and employment continues to narrow, but still exists.

The Gender Equality Index shows Luxembourg's steady progress, especially in the financial sphere. However, to achieve full gender equality, there remain areas for improvement, especially in the areas of political representation and redistribution of domestic labour.
